Storybrook Park

An all-new kids waterpark area at Schlitterbahn.

Schatze's Storybrook Park is a new land opening at Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, Texas, for the 2024 season. Reimagining an existing area, we added a mini-blaster water coaster, three smaller kid-friendly waterslides, and a large water play attraction. We packaged that all together with a new story and theme for the area and incorporated an existing, adjacent land into our package.

Creative Director Ken Parks wrote the story, which perfectly combines the German history of New Braunfels, the dachshund mascot of Schlitterbahn, and the whimsical nature of existing structures in the park. What resulted was Schatze's Storybrook Park, a colorful, kid-friendly water experience that combines Schatze's playfulness with the whimsy of a magical forest.

We went through multiple rounds of sign packages and theming, creating Good-Better-Best options, and weighed the pros and cons and the impact on the budget.

This sign package included an ID statement sign for the overall land, individual ID signs for each section of the land, Rider Safety Signs and operational signage, and smaller story-based identifier signs for the specific play structures. We also created attraction-specific graphics for the water play attraction, dubbed the Fur-Bidden Fort, including the primary ID, secondary sign, and decorative graphic on the showpiece: a large bucket that tips over and dumps water all over the guests!

We decided to proceed with a larger-than-life literal storybook for the ID sign. I rewrote the story of our land as the opening chapter of a fairytale so guests could actually read the text in the background. We added an updated version of the mascot Schatze, which is new for 2024. We added castle illustrations throughout the sign package in the land, tying everything together and adding to the sense of whimsy.

Overall, I'm thrilled with how the land came together and how the colors complement the story we were trying to tell. Thank you to everyone within the XDS team and Schlitterbahn-New Braunfels for the help!
